Summer Skin Issues and How to Avoid Them

Most of us love summer due to different reasons but this season proves to be a little tough on your skin.   • Acne breakouts
  • You have the perfect recipe for an acne breakout with the combination of sweating due to the heat,  pores being open due to the high temperatures, and, of course, grime and oil on your hands from being outside. All this contributes to an outbreak.

    To prevent acne, wash your face at least twice a day, especially after exercising or spending time under the sun. Clearing acne takes patience, and there are no quick treatments. You should take care of your skin on a constant basis to keep your skin clear and acne-free.

  • Heat Rash
  • It is a prickly, itchy sensation that comes when your sweat glands are blocked for an extended amount of time while you're hot and wearing tight clothing. Rashes can appear along with tiny bumps, as a result of the trapped sweat. The pimples will eventually rupture, releasing trapped sweat and causing the prickly sensation.

    One can fix it by wearing loose, breezy clothes. It's also a good idea to keep your sweat to a minimum. To do so, avoid going out on particularly hot days and make sure you're doing things that will not make you sweat much. 

  • Sunburn
  • It is one of the most common skin concerns during the summer. Consistent long-term exposure to sun rays is the underlying cause of sunburn. Even if you use sunscreen and re-apply it after every 2-3 hours, you might have to face a painful, red burn at some point.

    To protect your skin, apply sunscreen with an SPF 30 every day. Additionally, try wearing UV-blocking and a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face. If you get a sunburn, try to avoid sun exposure for some time until it cures.

  • Oily Skin
  • Summer heat and ultraviolet light can exacerbate the problems of oily-skinned people. Using alcohol-based toners and abrasive cleansers repeatedly only provides short relief. It dehydrates your skin, even more, causing it to create extra oil to compensate for the water loss, making your skin even oilier.

    You must avoid using products with mineral oil, petrolatum, and petroleum as they can suffocate your skin and clog your pores. Rather, you can use a small amount of summer moisturiser cream to give you a refreshing look. 

  • Dry Skin
  • The sun absorbs the moisture away from surfaces, including our skin. This is why, after spending time in the sun, we often feel dry and brittle. Dry and itchy skin might result from the hot and humid air. The drying effect of the sun can be combated by keeping your skin hydrated and moisturised. When you finish swimming, take a shower and shampoo your hair to remove any pollutants or chemicals that may cause your skin to become even drier. You can use a skin moisturiser all over your body that contains SPF.

  • Folliculitis infection
  • It starts in the hair follicles and spreads to the rest of the body. Folliculitis has the appearance of pimples, but the bumps are usually painful and uncomfortable. Because pore-clogging bacteria flourish on sweaty skin, it's a frequent skin issue in the summer.

    The easiest strategy to avoid folliculitis is to shower as soon as possible after sweating. Sweaty garments should not be worn again. Consider using non-comedogenic sunscreen or a summer moisturiser for dry skin all over your body to prevent pore-clogging.

  • Melasma
  • Melasma is a skin concern characterised by pigmented areas. It mostly affects the face, with patches that are usually grey or brown. Melasma can affect people at any time of year, although sun exposure can make spots darker.
